About "Supporting" Characters
Especially early on in the Western titles, characters would appear for only one story but be referenced as if they are known to the protagonist, or (rarely) have an effect on the status quo. These characters are split into four categories:
- Old friends- Any character that the narrative treats as an old friend of the protagonist who knew them before the start of the story.
- New friends- Any character met and befriended over the course of the story.
- Notorious enemies- Any character the protagonist indicates to have had previous negative interactions or knowledge of.
- New enemies- Any character met and embittered over the course of the story.
